On Wednesday November 1'st, 2006 the Banner Press newspaper carried a letter to the editor in which a local constituent mocked my stance on Southern Heritage as a legitimate election issue.

So I responded accordingly, because of the paper's policy of only one letter to the editor every 3 weeks , I responded the only way in which I could respond, which was through my blog.

Today I received an email from the wife of the man who attacked me in his letter. I am posting it below, which will be followed by my response to her:

From "Michelle"

"I just found your blog site and I think you need to get a few things straight- my husband is Lance ___. We do live in Rod’s district. Our address just happens to be Millersville- we live just inside Bollinger County, so we can voice a legitimate opinion. My husband’s family has lived on their farm in Bollinger County for five generations. Also, in reference to attacking my husband on the topic of if Michael Winder is a Christian, nothing my husband said in his letter implied that he knew differently. In fact, he stated that he was sure that Mr. Winder was a good and decent hard-working person. He also happens to know that Mr. Winder regularly attends church, not that that would make a difference to you. A side note- I talked with Rod Jetton about your flag issue, and happen to know that he did get floor time to discuss your desires of the Confederate flag- but it got filibustered. My point in all this is, know what you’re talking about before you attack."

My Response:
<DIV align=left>I apologize for getting your residence location wrong, however it was listed as "Millersville" so I assumed you were in Cape Girardeau county.</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>With all due respect ma'am, maybe your husband should get his facts straight. Because if he had talked to Mr. Winder, he would have known that Mike and I had a very long talk before I agreed to vote for and support him. (at least 45 minutes)</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>The initial question was about restoring the flags at Higginsville and Pilot Knob, and when asked whether he would work to restore them, even if it meant going against his own party, Mike Winder did not even hesitate, he said "absolutely without a doubt".</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>We also talked about other issues, highway conditions, property rights gun rights and the rights of the unborn.</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>Mike Winder lost a sister 10 years ago on highway 34, so believe me, he was sincere, when he stated he would work to improve road conditions. He is Pro- Life, and Pro-Property Rights, and was given an "A" rating by the NRA (the only reason Jetton was given an "+A" was because he was an incumbant.</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>And to answer your husbands question, I told Mike that if he was elected and became a "politician" like Rod has, I would be fighting him just like I did Rod in this last election.</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>But if you're husband is so upset because I am so passionate about wanting to restore the flags, I say "so what". I am a legitimate constituent, and it is a legitimate concern.</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>Most "Neocons" tend to write off and mock Southern history, and I get the feeling your husband is one of them.</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>If he doesn't like getting "called out" then he should think twice about attacking me.</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>Rod Jetton claims he has a 100% Pro-Life voting record, and he is not lying. However; you can have a 100% Pro-Life voting record, when you kill an anti-abortion bill like he did last year, before there was even a chance to vote on it.</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>Of course you have probably already read this on the Blog Post you are referring to:</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV =Ms&#111;normal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" align=left>http://www.henkeforsenate.com/misruppresentation.html (http://www.henkeforsenate.com/misruppresentati&#111;n.html)</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>,“Rod Jetton voted against Henke’s amendment to outlaw abortion. Jetton also wouldn’t assign Henke’s bill to outlaw abortion (HB1786) to a committee thus effectively killing the bill.”</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>The fact of the matter is this: Rod Jetton promised me at a super bowl party in 2003, that he would get the flags back up. It turns out that the promise was a lie. And if a man doesn't keep his word, then I consider that a "character flaw".</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>The Republicans have controlled the House, the Senate and the Governorship in Missouri since 2004. At any given time, either through legislation, or by the act of the Governor the flags could have been restored.</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>The "filibuster" excuse is a cop-out and I will tell you why...</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>Because the Republicans have figured out that all they have to do is get the bill to the floor, which is usually on the last day of the session. That way there is no time to debate it. This benefits them because, they can claim that they support the legislation, without actually having to take the political risk of restoring the flags at Higginsville and Pilot Knob.</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>This same tactic is used on issues like abortion as well.</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>And if you don't think those that think Southern Heritage is important aren't enough to matter then I ask that you read the following blog post:</DIV>
<DIV align=left></DIV>
<DIV align=left>In which Floriday U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam stated that: "heck, even the white rednecks who go to church on Sunday didn't come out to vote for us.”</DIV>
