Thread: direct-mail medical mavericks

i would like to hear from any of you that have opinions on the medical swamis who mass-mail us (via USPS) letter-size magazine-style promotionals. the champion of them all is Dr. William Campbell Douglass, and i've just gotten one by a Dr. David Williams from the familiar-sounding outfit called ALTERNATIVES -- Mountain Home Publishing.

googling the latter i find it promulgates [among many other great-sounding things] the 'activator', a gizmo a trusted chiropractorfriend started raving about several years ago. i'm tempted to subscribe to ALTERNATIVES. what do y'all think? Williams' and Douglass' pitch is virtually identical -- it's fine [even beneficial] to eat red meat, whole eggs, fat etc. in fact these guysbust up virtually everything we're told on all sides about diet. even if this stuff is pure fantasy, which i doubt, it's an exciting read. both Drs give impeccable credentials as medical pioneers and mythbusters.

the June issue of (UGH!) AARP has with an interestingcover -- a painting of a big fat Mona Lisa with accompanying story called "Why is this woman smiling? Good news on fat and health." what is this world coming to? "medically incorrect" truth, one hopes.

it does seem to me unlikely that we should have to drink 8 glasses a day (WCD says it's a lie) and lay off of everything as nature made it. talk to me please! /\/Edited by: nelson

    Hello nelson

I think that if a person lives moderately, they'regenerally not going have to worry too much about their health. This meanseating well, and getting enough exercise, rest and all other essentials needed for healthy lives. The key word is moderation. Live a moderate life and with any luck people will live a reasonable amount of years. The old Greek idea. Nothingnew underthe sun.

One has to wonder how much of the anti-(red) meat propaganda is really vegetarians pushing their agenda or maybe it's the chicken cartel!
