Just thought I'd say a few things about Zionism. for a long time, i didn't know what the word meant. So I decided to look into the modern Zionist idea. It more of less started in the 19th century. The first man to really move the idea mainstream in the Jewish world was Theodor Herzl, a Hungarian Jew who thought, maybe correctly that Jews would never be accepted in Europe. He wrote the bible of Zionism, "The Jewish State" - 1896. In his book, he outlines just how to go about forming a state just for Jews and how it will be set up exactly like any other nation. Of course, the Rabbis of the time were very much against zionism. They said that a Jewish state can only be reestablished when the Messiah comes (some Hasidic sects still believe this- Satmar being the biggest). The Balfour Declaration Nov. 1917 was the first real breakthrough for the zionist cause. It was a secret deal made between the WWI Bristish govt. and the British zionist org. to set up a Jewish state in Palsetine. From that time on, the zionists focused their attention on populating the Holy Land with Zionist Jews under the protection of British soldiers. In the 1940's, they thought they were strong enough to not need the British anymore and were able to form their state in 1948. But here we are at the end of 2011, and the zionist dreram has faded. Quietly, young Jews are leaving. They see no future in Palestine/Israel. Looks like the Rabbis were right all along. It'll still take time, but the Jewish state is not going to last. It's done. Like every idea, it's time comes, and then it ends. Of course, this is a very small scetch of what took place. The subject is vast with many twists and turns, such as the zionists and nazis got along fine. Not many people know about that little bit of information and the zionists are somewhat touchy about the subject.
I had a Jewish friend who said of one of these guys who was raised here and served in the IDF, "What, our 82nd Airborne isn't good enough for him?" Most Jews are like my friend, good Americans.
A lot of crucial points there. Many rabbis still oppose Zionism, and rightly so. How anybody can miss the fact that modern so-called Israel is 100% manmade is astounding. I think so much can be answered by Ahmadinajad's one question: Why Palestine? The main excuse used for Zionism is the Hollowcost, but that took place in Europe. The wishes of the people already living in Palestine in 1948 (what a decade from hell!) were no more considered than anybody asks actual Americans how they like the cool new Multiculti(TM) mode of existence for America.
Wish I could agree with your last statement -- mine would be more like "many, many Jews are good Americans -- and then there are the other 95% of them."

UK Politician Resigns After Saying Israel 'Will Not Go On Forever'

These words, spoken by a member of the UK's House of Lords, have sparked a huge amount of controversy in the UK.
The Guardian reports that Baroness Jenny Tonge, a Liberal Democrat peer, was filmed making the remarks during a student panel last week.
She also went on to say, "One day, the United States of America will get sick of giving £70 billion [$112 billion] a year to Israel to support what I call America's aircraft carrier in the Middle East – that is Israel. One day, the American people are going to say to the Israel lobby in the USA: enough is enough."
Multiple sources are today reporting that Tonge has resigned from the Liberal Democrats today after video of her remarks prompted politicians to call for the party's leader, Nick Clegg, to take disciplinary action against Tonge.
"No place in politics for those who question existence of the state of Israel. Nick Clegg must condemn Jenny Tonge's remark & demand apology," Ed Miliband tweeted.
Tonge has apparently refused to apologize. She remains a member of the House of Lords under its current system.
The Liberal Democrat leadership criticized Tonge for making "extremely ill-judged" and distanced itself from her remarks, but did not call on her to withdraw her comments. A spokesman said: "Jenny Tonge does not speak for the party on Israel and Palestine. Her presence and comments at this event were extremely ill-advised and ill-judged... The Liberal Democrats are wholehearted supporters of a peaceful two state solution to the Israel-Palestine issue."
Tonge has frequently run into trouble for other comments about Israel, but some are already arguing that this latest controversy is overblown.

This rag the Weekly Standard needs a new name. It's working around the clock to rack up links condemning Hagel, and the above stab is by a gew. The main question is what on earth Obummer is doing trying to appoint him? Could we have some discussion here please? Don't tell me he actually opposes the gews to any meaningful extent. How can they complain? He's throwing one foreign invasion after another for them -- if this is Tuesday, it must be Pakistan.

Hagel is hardly anti-Zionist; he's just not an all-out slave to AIPAC, unlike 98% of Congress. He doesn't believe the U.S. should bomb Iran back to the Stone Age without provocation, and he wasn't a kneejerk supporter of the war of aggression against Iraq. In other words he's semi-rational on foreign policy. Antiwar.com has had a lot of good articles on Hagel and how The Weekly Standard and the rest of the neo-con Bund is smearing him and what the stakes are in this nomination battle.
