A new Gallup poll has Obama's approval rating at 56%. For the month of June Obama's approval rating was 61%. The demographic breakdown for the June numbers had 53% of whites approving the job the president was doing, with 95% of blacks and 81% of all other non-whites likewise.
With the new 56% approval number for July 8th, it appears that Obama's favorability among whites has most likely dropped near or below 50%. Gallup has not provided internals for this new poll.
Since most congressional districts are racially gerrymandered, it will be interesting to see if more "Blue Dog" Democrats, whose constituents are predominately white, start asserting themselves more against this administration. It would bean encouraging event to see Mississippi Congressman Gene Taylor (D), who did not endorse Obama for president, take the lead in this effort.
Chrisite looks likely to defeat Corzine in November.

Man, 58%? Isn't that bound to be the lowest a president's achieved during the honeymoon period? We of course would rate him a zero or worse, but it's good news that Oh!Bummer is already viewed that negatively by the sheeple.
I guess it's a sure thing people are now rating him on real-world factors -- lost job, can't sell house etc. -- as opposed to the purely pigmentational and ideological criteria they went by in electing him, as you indicate. Blax voted their skin color, whites voted their guilty lack of any.

No, Nelson. Former federal attorney Chris Christie, not Christie Whitman. Chris Christie's first move after winning the GOP nomination was to replace the current failed GOP State leader, with a conservative State Senator named Jay Webber. The nominnee has the perogative to choose the state GOP leader. Christie is pro-life, where Whitman, well you know what her position on abortion is.
In other news, a Ron Paul supporting and pro-life assemblyman Mike Doherty, beat a sitting pro-choice State Senator in June's GOP primary.
... in addition Steve Lonegan made a strong showing in the Gubernatorial primary winning 43% of the vote, and moved Christie to the right on many issues. Lonegan is certainly to the right of Gov. Mark Sanford.
Corzine and the Dems are tryingto legalize gay marriage quickly, because come November polls show Corzine will lose and the GOP may take back one of the state houses, if not both.
This is a heavily Democratic state, so the polls will tighten over the next couple of months. A new Rasmussen poll has Corzine down by 12 points. Let's see what happens.
Finally, Christie Whitman's daughter has run in two GOP primaries for local and state offices. She lost both times. The GOP has no love left for the Whitman era.

Wow, so much good news out of the belly of the beast! Love that last part, may the Whitmans rot in obscurity for all ages. Keep us up to date on Jersey's return from the dead please. One could easily imagine it's still a mostly conservative state in terms of the man on the street. Liberals there get all the coverage, but NE NJ can't be mistaken for the whole enchilada.

Wikipedia on ethnicity in NJ is confusing -- perhaps deliberately -- but it somehow sounds good for whites. Italians are the largest "ethnic group", with blax only in second place? Are they whistling in the dark?

Whatever happens, I still cherish the dream of white voters somehow finding themselves (each year we spend under pezident Oh!Bummer should help) and simply outnumbering the others at the polls when the chips are down. Don, ruin that for me please.
I think Corzine is a afraid that the white voters will find themselves in November, that is why Obama is coming to NJ on the 16th of July to campaign for him. The Democrats are worried that black voter turnout will fall sharply from the 2008 presidential elections.
There is every indication that this will be the case. When white independent voters are mad at a Democratic candidate, and there is a low black voter turnout, the Democratic candidate is in real trouble.

My flight into JAX today was diverted to Orlando to accommodate Barry Soetoro's visit to Jacksonville to woo the Black Vote. My sources tell me that there was ONE SINGLE NEGRO in Jax who intended not to vote for Obama. To remedy such an unacceptable state of affairs, the POTUS crew complete with Air Farce One and the whole Secret Service plowed into Duval County to protect Soetoro from possible Al Qaeda attack. They shut down the entire airport for some hours. I was delayed by two hours. But we Honquis don't count anyway
Hopefully Barry was able to get through to that one Negro straggler.
