I remember news reports shortly after the murders and during the trail and there were two angles that emerged, one being that the White trash boys did it who were charged and converted, the other angle was that a black(s) did it. There were reports of a black man with blood on him seen shortly after the crime and reportedly evidence was "lost" that could have implicated a black. There were fears that the area was a racial tinderbox and with the 92 LA riots so fresh in the powers that be mind charging a black with the mutation and murder of White boys would have been highly problematic.
