Americans gradually came to believe that there was a pro-slavery conspiracy to expand the range of slavery, erode the foundations of republican government, and undermine the dignity of free labor. This pro-slavery elite supposedly controlled both major political parties and used its influence to block all attempts at reform.
As the old saying goes, "history doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes." The Cheap Labor Lobby isn't a perfect reincarnation of the Slave Power—but it uses the same arguments, pulls in the same general direction, and is driven by same fundamental appetites.
This elite has an apparently insatiable appetite for cheap labor and an uncontrollable urge to dismantle the American nation. It is engaged in what is now all but open warfare against American democracy, which it dresses up in faux humanitarian rhetoric and self-serving religious and economic arguments.

Muslim Albanians (whom the Clinton administration fought a war to help set up an Islamic rouge state in the Balkans) have lured tens of thousands of Moldovan ladies into sex slavery in Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Italy, Turkey, Israel, and elsewhere.
The Clinton administration bombed Christian Serbs to aid Muslim Albanians, most of whom were illegal aliens, in taking over Albania. Now Albanian Muslims have flooded into Macedonia, Greece, Italy, and elsewhere. They now overwhelmingly dominate drug trafficking and white slavery in Europe. Some have even set up shop in the United States.
Over the past twenty years as many as 10% of all Moldovan woman have been lured into a life of prostitution or outright sex slavery.
Sounds very much like the "Russian" Mafia that is really Jewish!

(1) There are jobs that Americans won't do.
In the nineteenth century, slaveowners argued that a degraded "mudsill" class was necessary to "do the jobs that no self respecting White man would do."
(2) Restricting immigration will injure the economy.
In the nineteenth century, slaveowners argued for reopening the African slave trade on the grounds that an artificial labor shortage was hurting the Southern economy.
(3) The people cannot be trusted.
In the nineteenth century, slaveowners argued against expanding the franchise and in favor of reserving important public policy decisions to elites. South Carolina was the most undemocratic state in the Union.
(4) They are our people.
In the nineteenth century, slaveowners often looked down on the "rednecks" and "peckerwoods"—the non-slaveowners who lived in the Southern hill country and piney woods areas—and adopted a paternalistic attitude toward "their people." Hispanic family values, anyone?
(5) The highest principles of Christianity and morality are advanced by this economic system.
In the nineteenth century, slaveowners were convinced that they were the real humanitarians and the real Christians. They used moral, humanitarian, and theological arguments to defend slavery against its free labor critics.
Sound familiar?
Indeed, it almost sounds at times like Sen. JD Alexander of Florida has read the original pro-slavery script, John C. Calhoun's Slavery: A Positive Good.
There are echoes of Calhoun in Alexander's idea that only illegal aliens from Latin America are fit to pick blueberries—even though Floridians drive into the countryside to pick their own blueberries on U-Pick farms all the time.

It is routine for Somalians to get a free pass for criminal activity because cities can’t afford to prosecute them for minor crimes.

Northern troops did not liberate black slaves as much as they denied their valuable labor to Southern planters, and then re-employed them under new masters as the British had done in the Revolution and War of 1812. The British called them “Pioneer Corps” and set them to hard labor on fortifications, the blue-clad New Englanders called them “labor battalions” and set them to hard labor on fortifications. Prior to the Northern invasion, slaves were well-fed and given medical treatment, but were yet to suffer blanket-tossing at the hands of the lusty descendants of New England slave traders.

[In the spring of 1862, Northern General John G. Foster was] in command of a mere 9,500 troops – scarcely enough for defensive security, and far below the number needed to conduct significant offensive operations. To maximize the effectiveness of his troops, Foster set to work, turning New Bern [North Carolina] into an impregnable stronghold.
Much of the labor was done by hundreds of “contraband” Negroes. Foster organized the ex-slaves into quasi-military formations, gave them a fife and drum, had a special flag created for them, and saw to it they were well-fed and given medical treatment. In return for this unusual policy, the labor battalions worked diligently and in high spirits, fortifying, as it were, their own newly gained freedom.
The Yankee soldiers felt secure behind Foster’s earthworks…lived in decent quarters, ate good food, worked reasonable hours, suffered less disease…and had ample opportunity for recreation. Their recreation ranged from concerts to literary clubs, with an outside chance of enjoying female companionship now and again.
Throughout the surviving letters and regimental histories, the attitude of the occupiers toward the Negro population seems rather contradictory. On the one hand, the Yankees enjoyed playing the liberators….On the other hand, they were quite eager to obtain for themselves the services of a low-paid “pickaninny” servant, and apparently saw no contradiction. Negroes were also a constant source of wonder and bemusement, which tended to express itself in utter condescension. They are often described in minstrel-show terms, complete with the eye-rolling darkie stereotypes, and their keen, completely natural, interest in their new masters prompted the soldiers to think of the Negroes as “the novelty-loving sons of Africa.”
Sometimes the Negroes were nothing more than the butt of amusement for bored soldiers, as this excerpt from the official history of the 24th Massachusetts indicates:
“Late in the afternoon, the regiment was mustered for pay, and later still the men had a spell of that almost universal horse-play known to those days as “tossing niggers” in a blanket. “While it was fun for the tossers, and very likely did not hurt those tossed, it was for the latter a period of intense fear, not to say horror. Of course the poor victims screamed and yelled, but the louder the cries, the greater the fun for the lusty fellows at the blanket’s edge….”

The death toll is my favorite means of wrecking "Civil War" admirers. I just ask them whether they feel 650,000 dead was worth to price -- one out of every 48 people in the country, using the 1860 census figure! Similarly, if the US population was 132,164,568 in 1940, how can we justify sacrificing 350,000 of the flower of our youth to the war god in that instance? That was one out of every 377 citizens, a much higher ratio but still drastically too high a figure.
