Some of the nation's most prominent megachurches have decided not to hold worship services on the Sunday that coincides with Christmas Day, a move that is generating controversy among evangelical Christians at a time when many conservative groups are battling to "put the Christ back in Christmas."

Megachurch leaders say that the decision is in keeping with their innovative and "family friendly" approach and that they are compensating in other ways. Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Ill., always a pacesetter among megachurches, is handing out a DVD it produced for the occasion that features a heartwarming contemporary Christmas tale.

"What we're encouraging people to do is take that DVD and in the comfort of their living room, with friends and family, pop it into the player and hopefully hear a different and more personal and maybe more intimate Christmas message, that God is with us wherever we are," said Cally Parkinson, communications director at Willow Creek, which draws 20,000 people on a typical Sunday.

Megachurches have long been criticized for offering "theology lite," but some critics say that this time the churches have gone too far in the quest to make Christianity accessible to spiritual seekers.

"I see this in many ways as a capitulation to narcissism, the self-centered, me-first, I'm going to put me and my immediate family first agenda of the larger culture," said Ben Witherington III, professor of New Testament interpretation at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky. "If Christianity is an evangelistic religion, then what kind of message is this sending to the larger culture - that worship is an optional extra?"

John D. Witvliet, director of the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship at Calvin College, asked: "What about the people in society without strong family connections? The elderly, single people a long distance from family, or people who are simply lonely and for whom church and prayers would be a significant part of their day?"........................</DIV>Edited by: nelson

Oh boy, here's a whole chain of great buzzwords straight from the Afro-music underworld of rap and hip hop. Also a trenchant commentary on Wikipedia itself. It seems to devote endless space to the glories of such putrid anti-culture but devotes only half a page to a legend of high artlike Anne-Sophie Mutter.

"Beatboxing," "scratching," "turntablist," etc. -- here you go! These at lastare the skills that really excite minority youth today.

I had a history professor in Mississippi who said he didn't know damn yankees were two words until he went to college. His grandmother had a fondness for using the term, which he adopted as well.

As I told a gathering inTennessee once, "I've heard the word 'Yankee' so many times since I arrived here I thought I was at a baseball game."

&gt;Gasp&lt; . . . . "Why me, why my kids, why my car?"

Do you think this lady was reared in public school?
<H2>White woman: Black man threw concrete at me at Long Island mall</H2>

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=130 align=right><T>
<T>
<TR>
<TD><NO></NO></TD></TR></T></T></TABLE>MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (AP) _ A white woman said she was in shock after a black man threw a 10-inch chunk of concrete at her sport utility vehicle in what police were labeling a hate crime.

Kim McCandless, of West Islip, was driving to the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa on Monday with her two daughters, a niece and a nephew, all between 7 months and 4 years old, when the concrete struck her windshield. No one was injured.

McCandless said she made eye contact with the attacker before he threw the concrete.

"I was in shock," she said. "I didn't understand why. Why me, why my kids, why my car?"

Carl Graves, of Amityville, threw the concrete at the SUV because the driver was white, Nassau County police Detective Lt. Karl Schoepp said. Graves and two friends were in the mall for a couple of hours Monday morning and were upset that the arcade and the movie theater were closed, Schoepp said.

He said Graves, 20, told police "the mall had become too white."

McCandless said she got out of the car, wanting "to scream," and checked on the children, who were crying. She said the men laughed as they walked away.

"I have four kids to raise, and it's really scary that I have to worry about where they go shopping or where they do whatever, because I'm a different color than that person," she said.

Graves was ordered held on $10,000 bond after being arraigned Tuesday on charges of criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and menacing as a bias crime.

There was no telephone listing for Graves in Amityville. The district attorney's office did not immediately return a phone message or a page seeking information on whether Graves had an attorney.

Yeah, I saw that and commented on it on AMREN yesterday.

As I said on AMREN, these blacks are so far out of the mainstream of this society, it's almost predictable thatsuch acts as what that black guy did arejust the next step in their miserable existance.

Hopefully, that woman and her family are sane enough to finally understand that black people have gone bonkers and hate their guts, but in that she's a LI'er, I wouldn't bet on it. I know those people. Incredible liberals, all of them.

"Progress" and "possibilities" are two of the most poisonous words in the liberal lexicon. Great action report and appeal for help from SHNV—hope many will rise to the occasion!
<DIV>Appeal for Support</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>In the late 1990's the Jefferson Davis Highway marker originally placed in Vancouver, Washington, in 1939 was quietly removed by the City Manager and a City Councilman with a liberal political agenda. We spent about 18-months fighting the City of Vancouver to reinstall the marker.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>Instead, we finally succeeded in having the marker placed outside the Clark County Historical Museum on the corner of Main &amp; 16th in downtown Vancouver.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>Five years later however, a new Director assumed command of the Clark County Historical Museum and worked tirelessly to have it removed from the grounds by any means possible. With protests from the UDC and SCV, the marker was moved "temporarily" in the fall of 2006, with the sanction of the Clark County Historical Commission, allegedly to keep it safe during the construction of a new handicapped-accessible entrance. We knew it would never go back, and sure enough we had another fight on our hands...</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>We took our fight to the Clark County Historical Commission, who was the body that had to approve the "temporary" move of the marker in the first place. After some debate, the majority of the Commission sided with our Cause, and would support us in getting the marker placed back at the Museum, and even back at its original location possibly.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>At the next City Council meeting, Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard came down swiftly and severely, and rather rudely, that the marker was in fact considered a "gift" that the City no longer wanted, that the marker would never again sit on City property, and that the issue of the marker would/should not come before him again. The Vancouver City slogan of "Pride, Progress, and Possibilities" only pertains to those issues and people that the very "progressive" Council deems worthy. Neither the history of Jefferson Davis in the Pacific-Northwest or the marker itself that is on the Clark County Historical Register, mean anything to the government officials or the Director of the Historical Museum. "Progress" has seemingly trumped truth and history.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>Faced with the absolutism of the City Council, a Historical Museum Director with a very biased liberal stance towards history, and an Historical Commission that was rendered ineffective by the Council, there is no choice but to procure a piece of land of our own specifically for the placement of the Jefferson Davis Highway marker. This is how the idea for the Jefferson Davis Park came about.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>We are in the process of purchasing a piece of land, have had our Articles of Incorporation approved by the State, have obtained a Federal Tax-ID number, registered our previously un-addressed plot of land with the County, submitted our 501c3 documents, and have formed a Board of Directors for the Jefferson Davis Park!</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>The Park property is only 15-20 yards from Interstate-5! And our three large flagpoles that we will be putting up will literally be seen by thousands of commuters and travelers each day!</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>Another planned benefit of the Park is that it will be a beautiful and peaceful place of reverence honoring our Confederate ancestors due to the hundreds of gray bricks forming a small memorial plaza around the marker and its interpretive plaque, each engraved with veterans names.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>But, none of this is possible without financial assistance from our brothers in the SCV. We are looking for donations and we are also selling bricks to raise the much needed funds. The gray bricks with engraved black lettering gives our fellow Compatriots the ability to honor their ancestor's memory, or their own family or business, or even their Camp. So far we have raised more than $10,000, and had the three 40-foot flagpoles donated to us! But we need to raise $10,000 more by the last day of August when we close on the property. We need your help immediately!!!</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>Total, we will need to raise a minimum of $30,000 to cover the land, the closing costs, the bricks, landscaping and fencing, the laying of the memorial bricks, etc.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>Please support us in this worthy endeavor, please help us spread the word about the Jefferson Davis Park, and please support us by purchasing a brick or two for yourself.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>Thank you so much for your help and support.</DIV>
