This should brighten our day. The writer touches on but doesn't dare linger on the main event -- PEOPLE ARE ABANDONING TV!!!

Where have all the viewers gone?

NEW YORK (AP) -- Maybe they're outside in the garden. They could be playing softball. Or perhaps they're just plain bored.

In TV's worst spring in recent memory, a startling number of Americans drifted away from television the past two months: More than 2.5 million fewer people were watching ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox than at the same time last year, statistics show.

Everyone has a theory to explain the plummeting ratings: early Daylight Savings Time, more reruns, bad shows, more shows being recorded or downloaded or streamed. (Blog: What -- and when -- are you watching?)

Scariest of all for the networks, however, is the idea that many people are now making their own television schedules. The industry isn't fully equipped to keep track of them, and as a result the networks are scrambling to hold on to the nearly $8.8 billion they collected during last spring's ad-buying season.

"This may be the spring where we see a radical shift in the way the culture thinks of watching TV," said Sarah Bunting, co-founder of the Web site Television Without Pity.

The viewer plunge couldn't have come at a worse time for the networks -- next week they will showcase their fall schedules to advertisers in the annual "up front" presentations.

The networks argue that viewership is changing, not necessarily declining. Some advertisers respond that they are no longer willing to pay full price up front to reach viewers that may not tune in later.

This fall, both sides will be watching what happens with families like Tony Cort's. During prime-time, Cort, his wife and four kids tend to scatter to computers or other activities in different parts of their New Jersey home. (Not during "American Idol" or "Lost," though.) They're definitely watching less TV, said Cort, who runs a Web site for martial arts aficionados.

"I remember when '24' was on, that was something there was a lot of interest and excitement about," he said.

News flash: "24" is still on. Its ratings are down, too, amid a critically savaged season.

More bad news abounds. NBC set a record last month for its least-watched week during the past 20 years, and maybe ever -- then broke it a week later. This is the least popular season ever for CBS' "Survivor." ABC's "Lost" has lost nearly half its live audience -- more than 10 million people -- from the days it was a sensation. "The Sopranos" (a show that has earned broadcast-network-like ratings in the past) is ending on HBO, and the response is a collective yawn...............

It couldn't happen to a more loathsome and deserving collection of contemptible scoundrels! The only thing I ever watch on TalmudVision is C-SPAN--and not too much of that, either. It is, however, entertaining if one has a kind of Mencken-like sense of humor.

This morning Rep. Jim McDermott of Washington State made some sense (for a change) when he said the Iraq "war" (if that is the proper term) would only end when and if a sufficient number of Republicans would tell el Presidente Jorge Dubya Arbusto straight out that he and his neokahns were killing the Republican party.

Rep. David Dreier(Cal. 26), who, prior to shock-and-awe, often made some sense, got up in a spirited if rather Khamsin-like* defense of the Dubya-neocohen policies, which probably drove away some additional genuine conservatives from the GOP.

As the GOP faithful continues to commit hari-kari, it could turn out to be a good thing for Ron Paul in running as an independent; I expect a good many Democrats will also appreciate a candidate who makes sense, for a change.

*I believe Khamsin is the name of the Egyptian efreet responsible for the plague-ridden hot wind blowing in.

Who is this Tom McLaughlin and where'd he come from? He writes like one of us. I'ts raining truth!

Ordinary people are getting smarter as the mainstream media loses its power, which is probably why the “amnesty” bill recently went down in flames.FSM Contributing Editor Tom McLaughlin outlines why the MSM is more often ridiculed these days. It’s about time.
    <DIV style="MARGIN: auto 0in" align=center>

Why the “Racist” Card Has Lost Its Sting </DIV>
    <DIV style="MARGIN: auto 0in">

    By Tom Mc Laughlin</DIV>

Having been called a racist, a bigot or a homophobe more times than I can count, such accusations have no sting. Long ago I recognized them for what they were: ad hominem attacks by those who had run out of logical arguments. They’re still used often - most recently by President Bush against his own political base who oppose his illegal alien amnesty plan. Instead of quelling opposition however, Bush’s accusations inflamed it. What looked like a sure thing after Democrats won control of Congress is going down to defeat. Pundits are shocked. What’s going on?

Ordinary people are getting smarter as the mainstream media loses its power. That’s what’s going on. The New York Times doesn’t define political debate exclusively anymore. For decades, CBS, NBC and ABC followed the Times and broadcast the same stories the paper had on its front page and gave them the same spin. Now Pinch Sulzberger, owner of the Times and The Boston Globe, is losing circulation so fast he said he isn’t sure there will even be a New York Times in five years. What happened? Two things: the internet and talk radio, but especially the internet.

It used to be that if the Times ignored a story, so did the major networks and so did the weekly newsmagazines. The story died. People figured that if they didn’t see it on TV, it didn’t happen. Now however, The Drudge Report will publish an internet link and tens of millions of grassroots Americans will know about it within hours. Talk radio hosts keep a close watch on Drudge and they broadcast what he posts to millions more as they drive home from work. People exchange linked stories via email with relatives and friends after dinner. Now, the mainstream media may ignore a story but Americans still know about it.

And that’s not all. If the Times and their MSM cohorts deign to cover a story they consider distasteful and put a negative spin on it, they may find themselves objects of ridicule by millions of ordinary Americans the very same day. If you don’t believe it, ask Dan Rather. This is quite a comeuppance for our media elitists who for decades considered themselves sole arbiters of what people should know. They didn’t realize how insular they’d become attending the same cloistered universities and cocktail parties as our political elite. They didn’t comprehend how far out of touch with ordinary Americans they were.

To them, illegal aliens were not a drain on expensive social services or a tax burden. They were those nice housekeepers and gardeners for their McMansions. They were nice nannies for their children and nurse’s aides for their aging parent(s) whom they employed at low wages and without benefits. They felt all tolerant and multicultural and diversity-celebrating as they waved goodbye and drove to the office in their Volvos tut-tutting about the racist bigots who want to deport their nice “undocumented immigrants” and build a fence on the Mexican border............

Excellent article, Nelson; the Internet may yetprove to be our salvation.

As I think I've previously mentioned, I cancelled the local BCT last November. So far, I've had two call-backs regarding re-subscription. I told them (truthfully) I get my news exclusively from the Internet, since the MSM merely reports--or, rather, spins--what the establishment wants us to hear, and suppresses everything we shouldn't know about.

"There is no such thing in America as an Independent Press. You know it and I know it. There's not one of you who would dare write his honest opinions. The business of a journalist is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of Mammon, and to sell himself, his country, and his race for his daily bread. We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are jumping jacks; they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are the property of these men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

John Swinton, former editor N.Y. Times - from a speech at a banquet following the announcement of his retirement.

Notice how often Ron Paul lauds the internet—and what a radically different stance the Republic Rats put on it, if they ever mention it at all.

I LOVE hearing from newspapers that want me to subscribe. (My official love mask.) Remember, always inform the caller they're working for an evil outfit. Most have no clue.........

An article entitled "AP Is Dead ... Killed By Blogs &amp; Aggregation"

The AP is scrambling to remain needed in this fast paced up to the second blog news world. As reported and analyzed by WebProNews, the AP is suing Moreover for of all things... linking to AP stories. Does the AP not realize that winning this suit would result in less readers of their stories? The old news order is dead, the AP will have to adapt or die.

The AP's relevance has disappeared. The AP's business model has evaporated. The AP is dead, killed by blogs and news aggregation.

Michael, HOW do you do it! This is one of the headiest news finds I've seen since getting political 20 years ago. Yes, yes, it was known the big media were running for their lives, but thisWebPro organization (apparently a quite substantive one*) is declaring the almighty AP dead as the Speedwell when the Andrea Doria was finished with it!

It seems to me that every time another major media bastion falls, it only further ensures the future of internet freedom in this country. The net is what all factions in our society except a bunch of stinky beltway politicians are agreed on as essential, the new public square of the digital age—and not up for hijacking. When the Record companies were about to destroy internet radio, the pols received EIGHT HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND protest messages (probably more like a milion by now—in a sense, one for every 300 Americans—and it would seem to be a 98% dead issue.

Some things really do never change—and I venture to say that people power is one of them. When a whole citizenry wants something at once, there's no way they're going to be denied it. Prove me wrong if you can, all I want is the truth!

We who have courage fear not to call an amoral, unethical, unscrupulous Jew a child of the devil. Jews are the root of all evil. If the fink of all finks, Abe Foxman, succeeds in offing me, so be it. I will not have died in vain. He will one day get his richly deserved comeuppance.
Let it be known to the entire world, I am hell-bent on defeating AIPAC, ADL, ACLU and all other traitors of their ilk whose goal is to destroy the United States Constitution and the American Republic.

An article entitled "Poetic Justice: AP Cuts Jobs by Ten Percent"

The mainstream media practically carried Barack Hussein Obama into the Oval Office thanks to their persistent refusal to do their job and investigate his mysterious and possibly criminal background, including shady financial dealings and drug use. Now all that "bad karma" has manifested itself as they fall victim to the increasing financial collapse –which Obama played a key role in causing when he filed a lawsuit on behalf of ACORN to force banks to make more minority subprime loans. This of course was one of many news stories AP swept under the rug –along with Obama’s support of partial birth abortion and the many Communists and Marxists in Obama’s past, so they could help elect the first mulatto president.

Now, they want to bailout the Newspapers! What about all the right-wing nationalist papers, why didn’t they get bailout? They didn’t and won’t get a bailout because the politicians disagree with them, so unless, a paper prints only what the governments wants or no bailout!

An article entitled "Liberal Media Losing its Audience"

What we need to understand is that while the First Great Depression in the 1930s devastated farmers and the middle class, the Second Great Depression is dragging the really big fish out of the water. The super-rich Jews, tech yuppies and trust fund babies of today don’t seem to be as canny about money as their grandfathers and great-grandfathers were back in 1929. Maybe keeping your money in a mattress isn’t such a bad idea. Anyone who moved his money into gold back when it was below $400 an ounce is sitting pretty right about now. A lot of really wealthy Jews got wiped out by Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme or the collapse of Lehman brothers. And the carnage is only just beginning.

All these people who doubt the official 911 story or who have doubts that Obama qualifies as a natural born US citizen are NOT listening to the liberal media. They have probably stopped buying their rags long ago. They are going to websites where their intelligence isn’t insulted by liberal propaganda designed for people who can’t think for themselves.

Minn. newspapers get retraining funds for Internet

Minn. newspapers to share $238K in grant money to retrain staffs for Internet age

    * Tuesday February 24, 2009, 2:17 pm EST

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Two Minnesota newspapers will receive a share of state grants normally given to retrain workers in manufacturing and other industries in transition.

The Duluth News Tribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press will work with the University of Minnesota's School of Journalism and Mass Communication to help staff adapt to an increasingly Internet-based industry.

Minnesota Job Skills Partnership is awarding $238,000 in state funds, while the newspapers and the university will contribute about $469,000 combined, mostly by devoting staff time to training.

Paul Moe, the state program's director, said newspapers around the country are looking closely at the project as a potential model.

Kathleen Hansen, director of the university's Minnesota Journalism Center, said the grant idea came from the Pioneer Press. She said the application was unusual for a state agency more accustomed to businesses that deal in plastics or crop machinery.

"This is a very different kind of workforce group," she said.

Hansen said training will be tailored to the skills of the newsroom and advertising sales staffs at the newspapers. She said a primary goal for both departments will be getting them away from print-based thinking.

Some journalists "don't know how to start thinking about stories without thinking about what's going to be in the print newspaper," she said.

Journalists will likely study new ways of telling stories and new ways of delivering content, and perhaps get some training in using software.

Ad sales people will look at different ways to connect consumers with advertisers, treating the Internet as a one-on-one medium rather than one serving a mass audience, as is the case in print.

Rob Karwath, executive editor of the News Tribune, said he hopes the grant will help his newspaper come up with new products that deliver news and advertising to readers and methods to get more feedback from customers.

There are some newspaper newsmongers that have blogs open for comment. I've been to some and found them totoe the tribe's anti-amercian agenda. They can be exhaustively long winded and perservering.

I suspect this training is more about how to deflect truth than using the computer and reporting the news.

Public school teachers are routinely trained in deflecting concerns of "conservative" parents.
